I am a veggie because I do not agree with and do not want to support the American meat industry. If we as a culture had a better relationship with our food animals, I would probably not be veggie. I used to eat Hunted meat because I agree with hunting as a lifestyle and a meat source, but at this point I think any meat would give me wicked shits.

Vegetarianism is just as much of a perversion of nature as any hunger strike, IE: a human choice, and therefore not a 'perversion of nature'.

I've personally never met one intelligent person that went herbivore as a kid. One of those was a friend of mine that recently had to go to intensive care because of years of malnutrition.

Since spending the last fifteen years demonizing his former friends, generally pissing everyone off and assaulting my sister because she tried to get an IV into him, he will not exactly be missed.

The few intelligent people I know that got into the thing made the decision as adults after putting some thought into it.

So far healthy life is easiest to have when eating a balanced diet.

I'm not one of those that get pissed when someone says no to a piece of ham.
But what irks me is when, almost always, that person wrinkles their nose and complains about the smell. Afterwards s/he also always starts on how everyone should be herbivores and how much better it would be.

I agree with the data, but the fundie way of dispencing information just gets me yearning for a big steak.

"interest in own affairs" in my mind mainly constitutes evaluating and questioning anything that is presented to us, and not agreeing or going along with something because its the the default action, eg eating meat. im vegan (actually its my vegan birthday, 1 year today) but i dont want to be reduced to any level below my own by trolls or by arguing against people who will never see any light beyond the inside of their own head. ive had enough of those arguments IRL thankyouverymuch.
