>>689145>vast majority of people get their morality from religion. That is a huge problem in the US. It's like we're taking a step backwards and dividing between Christian morality and confused retards who can't even describe in words what is wrong and what is right.
Now you have a culture where Christianity allows you to take the "moral highground" because anything you say automatically puts God on your side, and people wouldn't know what real morality was about if it walked up and hit them in the face. So one side has an argument, the other side has a gut feeling that something is wrong, but can't rationalize why they feel it because they are uneducated and blind.
Because philosophy isn't taught any more, people read books from various nutjobs and think moral relativity is good, and allows others to embrace all kinds of culture and diversity and is the only true right in this world. Because everything is full of good and bad and quantifying or comparing systems merely makes you a judgemental prick. We're taught judgement is a bad thing. Not PREjudgement, but judgement in general. It's not ok to call something evil evil, you can't call a spade a spade.
Of all the things that you would think would be IMPORTANT in school to learn, the ability to REASON and to PREDICT the outcome of your actions in an intelligent, logical manner SHOULD be the second most important thing to learn. The most important thing would be language mastery and reading comprehension, to truly understand what you are learning when you move on to philosophy.
4 years of philosophy in private schools, please.
