These seems pretty fucking convoluted when there are oil fields elsewhere that can be grabbed with much less effort. The companies wouldn't even owe anybody political favours after the fact.

yea aids and diamonds, and a swath of oil deposits in the north. north africa has decent oil reserves, but they are too retarded to use them properly. iran is making noises with their oil that gets the western powers interested in neutralizing them.
