Evolution, Racism, the Death Penalty, the liberal stance on these things is the intellectual one. Not everyone is smart enough to understand.
It's a common argument to say liberals are arrogant, "college boys", ivory tower, etc.
There's no way to dress it up though. It's smarter, the liberal position requires more understanding.
Not every liberal is smart. Those people won't know why their beliefs are liberal. They won't know what the evidence for evolution is, why it's bad to be racist, why you shouldn't kill killers, any of these things seems silly at first.
Conservatives can argue they're points on the whole because they're simple positions. You need a good education to understand a lot of liberal views.
It sounds arrogant yes, but that's how it is. If you're dumb, and you're liberal, you have no idea why you believe what you believe.
