>>60534"This machine was one of four Sno-Cats which completed the first crossing of the Antarctic continent. As part of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1957-58, led by Sir Vivian Fuchs, it travelled from the Weddell Sea to McMurdo Sound, a distance of 3473 km, in 98 days.
Powered by a 134 kW Chrysler motor, it had a top speed of 25 km/h and the ability to pull loads up to 2.7 tonnes. Its fuel consumption averaged 70 l/100km.
After further service at Scott Base, it was returned to New Zealand in 1971 on HMNZS Endeavour and presented to Canterbury Museum."
