I live in a small town where trains cut the town in half every 24 minutes. How is it in the city? Do you cross the tracks when the bar is down? Why or why not?

It's a conundrum.

I get this when I come to lights too. I feel dumb for standing there and I feel like I get derisive looks from drivers when I ride through after pausing (although I don't look around to see, too scared lol). Also, I worry a cop will see me and pull me over.

Yeah I once got a lecture for walking across on foot when the bars were down because apparently it's trespassing on BNSF property when the bars are down but I was like 13 then and he might have made that up. Does anyone know?

I've worked on the railways, I've seen the result of people who think they can beat a train at a crossing. This is why I get mad when I see it happening.

In my town a drunk guy got decapitated by a train last year so I guess that would be another reason why. I wouldn't ever try to beat a train if I had any doubt that I would be safe by like 10 seconds

No, not really. It's a net loss. Humanity isn't the sum of the IQ of the breeding pool.
