The Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company (MIR), which operates the Tsukuba Express (TX), debuted its new rolling stock (TX-2000 series) to the public at the TX main facility in Tsukubamirai. The new stock will enter revenue service on the 20th.
The MIR augmented its fleet with 4 new trains (24 cars total) in preparation for the schedule changes this coming fall, bringing the fleet to a total of 34 trains (204 cars).
The new cars extend the red stripe above the windows all the way to the front of the lead cars, and sharpen the "V"-shape of the front windows. In addition,a red strip was added underneath the windows, making it easier to distinguish the train from the platform doors when the trains are stopped at stations. Inside the trains, the seats were improved by choosing softer materials for the upholstery. For priority seating (for the disabled and elderly, etc.) and on the the end car in the direction of Tsukuba, used as women-only cars during some periods, the straps were brought 5 cm lower.
