I'm an ausfag that just got my bike license. I'm looking for a good starting bike, it has to be 250cc or less and though I won't be doing much highway riding to basically get anywhere from my place involves being on a freeway for at least a few minutes so it has to do 100kph and more importantly not get my stupid ass blown off the road.
I've mainly been looking at Honda CB/r/f/250s and Kawasaki GPX250Rs.
Any advice?

Btw OP, how much of a waiting list for the Pre-L was it in your area?
Guys I know in Sydney had had to wait 10 weeks, although in Newcastle it's only 3. Tuggerah is just 1-2.

I got my car license before that shit came in so I don't know. Motorcycle license I got after a 2 day course, so I'm basically terrified and convinced I'm going to die.
I think queensland rules are fucked up compared to the rest of the country.

Yeah I think that's the deal here now but I got my car license before that came in. In QLD once you've got your car license for a year here you just need to do a course that goes for a couple of days where they assess you as you go and you get your 'cycle license right away, there's a short written test too but it's multiple choice and piss easy. You can only ride 250cc for the first year though.

go for the vtr250, everyone raves about it. i ride a yamaha xt250 which is great for anything below about 100km/h but doesnt like being over that speed for too long - still a good bike tho.

an for future reference id say come to /o/ instead, but as an /o/fag maybe im biased.

Most 'brand' 250cc bikes/scoots can cruise at 110 without clapping out, if they're serviced religiously and run-in properly. However if you don't love the bike, expect it to be a write-off by 7k-10k.
