>>53248Those were the American-made Rohr Turboliners, as opposed to the French ANF Turboliner (which the Rohr design was based off of) rusting in the weeds. The Rohr Turboliners would run well into the 1990s on the Empire Service route in New York State, and even included 3rd Rail electrical power in addition to its' gas turbine.
Amtrak and the Albany government tried to set up a high-speed corridor in the state using the Turboliners some time in the late 90s to early 21st Century. The Rohr Turboliners still in Amtrak's roster were supposed to be refurbished to current standards by Super Steel in Schenectady. Alas, the project fell victim to a lot of political faggotry, the high-speed corridor never came to fruition, and the Turboliners would lay derelict.
An urban exploration website features some ballsy motherfuckers poking around a parked Turboliner in Schenectady.
