Why is it that buses never turn off their engines once they are on the round? Even when sat for 10-15 mins waiting for the next time they leave the station.

I used to think it was to prevent wear on the starter motor and to prevent the engine cooling a little to then just heat up again causing excessive expansion and contraction.
