$650 is indeed a good deal on this bike.. I'm assuming this is an old stock item since I think the newest ones have carbon fiber forks of some sort. The 105 shifters were significantly better than the Tiagra many years ago, but I've heard recently that they are basically the same now-a-days. The wheels and tires will make or break this deal, and I'm not sure whats on this bike.. but I'm assuming that its decent work..

I took a look, they're some Alexrims made for a Specialized bike with some Vittoria Randonneur tires. The wheels spin very true.

by the same logic any bike with shimano is fail, because you can go to walmart or target and get a bike with shimano components .

While I would fail it because Schwinn went the Kmart route....that bike is built better that top-end bike from 15 years ago...and those were nice bikes. I would take it to a real bike shop and let them tune it up and ask if you need any upgrades before hitting the road. Tell them someone bought it for you and you had no choice....they hate store bought bikes....but YES, tha's a very nice bike. Good Yob!

the plan with this bike is for me to ride it for a year or two then replace the frame with a proper steel frame bike. I was considering a Surly Crosscheck, this way I'd get a bike for about $1000 with STI shifters and better components than the Crosscheck Complete that they sell for about the same price. This aluminum frame is so jarring.
