Pure turbojets aren't really used by anything anymore, they're damn loud and inefficient. A turbofan is basically the same as a turbojet but with an extra shaft connecting a large fan on one end and a turbine at the other.
Commercial airliners and bizjets use high-bypass (massive fan relative to the rest of the engine) turbofans which provide excellent efficiency at the high-subsonic speed they travel at.
Modern fighter jets use low-bypass (little fan) turbofans which are less efficient (but more then turbojets), but a lot more compact and powerful.
There are also turboprops which is a similar turbine engine that instead of primarily generating thrust by shooting air out the back of itself, instead turns a propeller. This design is more efficient at low airspeeds and altitudes. These are popular with large light aircraft and regional airliners.
