What can /o/ tell me, good or bad, about Triumphs? Looking at getting my first motorcycle, figure a Bonneville would be a good bike for a beginner (I have experience with dirt bikes when I was younger, but never owned a motorcycle).

I'm not sure if theres engine or crash bars for them, so you might have to get a custom set made which will look ugly.

Unless you feel competent at your mechanical abilities, you should avoid them like the plague. Get something Japanese that you can repair with pocket money even if you crash it.

They're built for looks, not performance. Fuel injected, which is nice... But heavy as fuck, low hp (fir displacement) and vibrate like a motherfucker, or sound like shit, depending on crank-angle.

That's an old stereotype that only applies to the old models. If OP is buying something 2000 or later, he has nothing to worry about.

pretty good value compared to other things in its class, cheaper than the cheapest harley, about the same as an entry level Jap cruiser of a similar displacement, and a heck of a lot better riding bike than any of those
