Do any 2 stroke exhausts fit? I got a dirtbike that is rather old and I need to replace the exhaust. Finding parts for it is terribly hard. Dirtbike is a yamaha it400. Try to find a carb rebuild kit too.

What helmet should I get?

Is there a huge difference between safety/comfort between like shoei and something like hjc?
a family friend of mine has a fulmar(?) or something, he says he loves it. I don't know what to get.

Also I'm in Florida and I need a jacket that wont make me sweat balls, any advice?

Do they have Cycle Gear in your state? If they do, go there and try on a bunch of stuff. That's the best way to find something you'll like.

For helmets, its good to get something that is both DOT and Snell certified, after that, its pretty much about how well it feels on your head, and if it has features you like. Higher priced brands like Shoei or Arai will typically be lighter and maybe quieter than cheaper brands like HJC, but since everyone's head is shaped different, a cheaper helmet might fit you better than an expensive one.

For jackets, leather is best, but expensive. Get one that is perforated and light. If its textile, make sure it has lots of vents and a removable liner. There is also light mesh jackets that allow air to pass through easily while still offering armor protection.

Safety-wise there is a helluva lot of debate. Some say cheaper helmets that aren't tested to as high a standard offer better protection in "real-world" situations. Hard impact v soft impact etc...

Basically, get whatever helmet fits you the best. ALWAYS try a selection of helmets in a selection of sizes before committing to one.

So there's this event in DC in 3 weeks where Kawasaki lets people basically test ride their bikes, one of which is a 250R.

I already know that I plan on buying one, so I'd like to test ride it. Problem is, I've never rode a bike before. Well I took MSF and passed easily 2 weeks ago, but even with that class I never rode a bike beyond 3rd gear. From what I heard, the Event is one giant ride around town including freeways, streets, and some twisty roads.

I think I could be fine if I rode one, but still, what if I drop the bike or worse? I don't wanna be the person that slows everyone down.

Also, when you are going in 5th gear and come up to a red light and gradually slow down, do you

I don't know much about appraising classic bikes, but for bikes like that one, maybe $1000-$2000 for running and in good shape, less than $1000 for non running.

As for you, you might want to play it cool if you are unsure of your confidence in riding a motorcycle. Riding in a group like that might be intimidating, especially when everyone is merging on to freeways and stuff. What you could do is go to the event and let the staff know that you are interested in the bike and are a noob. They might let you ride around the block a couple times to let you get used to the bike and see how you feel about going on a longer ride. They want to get you the customer on one of their bikes, so I'm sure they will be accomodating.

Hi motorcyclists of /o/, looking for some general starter advice.

So im in UK and will have alot of free time before starting uni in sept, in which im planning to work and save up for a bike + gear + cbt (uk).

But really, the main reason I want to ride is everytime its a sunny day, I really wish I had a bike. Is this a decent enough reason to validate spending all the money?

I cleaned the gas tank and relined it, cleaned the petcock, added an inline feul filter, so that should be fine
so i try to start the bike and theres just a click. i charge the battery and try again, just a click. all the electronics are fine, except theres no power to the starter, i think its the starter relay, and help please?

could be that the battery is just totally shot. If its a really old battery, even if it appears to be charged, it may not have the juice to crank the bike.

ive actually recently been thinking about getting one

Ive never owned a bike before and im still cautious about it. Like, im a beg guy.... as in about 6'4" and about 220lbs. that is the main reason why i do now want to get a 250. At the same time, im wary about getting a 600 as it is my first bike and may be a lot of power for a beginner. After a quick look in my area i saw a zx6r for sale for 1900 dollars. I figured that once i get everything done then something like that would be good for me. Any opinions?

its actually already sold too, i checked.
But it had been dropped a few times apparently which is why it would be a good starter bike. From the pictures i couldnt see any major damage though

My opinion on this bike is that it's a nice bike to learn on, it's very forgiving.
Your pretty big compared to me (5'8 160lbs, was 135 when i bought it).
My friend who is around your size rode it around the parking lot and said he had a lot of fun on it though.

you can get a 600 and be just fine though.

i like the though of that knowing that i wouldnt have to worry if i dropped it as well. but ya, ive ridden a bike before around a parking lot before. it was a cbr 600.

The guy who owned the CBR also had an s2000, both of which are straight white.....

yeah getting a dropped bike to learn on isnt a bad idea. What i like about the 250 is it has a good resale value.
I'm hoping to get a 09+ zx6r a lot sexier then the previous generation.

The stock will be just fine however if you do plan on upgrading the entire exhaust then yes it probably is mandatory.

however, if you do rejet it you should get better performance so i'd go for it anyway

Realistically i wont get this bike. i havent done any of the safety courses yet nor do i have any gear. But im thinking i can either buy something like this or sell my corolla and upgrade to an rsx type. This seems better so that way i can have 2 vehicles

take the MSF course first and use their bike that way if you drop it you wont be dropping your bike.

i remember there was this dumb fat isreali guy in my group who would constantly rev his engine while the instructor was speaking, everyone hated him and he failed the test cause he dropped the bike.
