EP3 opinions?
I need something that will save gas while still being entertaining to drive for the next couple years in college. Been considering an EP3 Si. Opinions?

Also, I'd most likely leave it stock with the exception of some Type R wheels, only because I'm not fond of the stock ones.

It's ok, but it's a torqueless wonder. I would suggest a Prelude/RSX over an EP3, unless you absolutely need the rear seat and hatch space. My friend had one and I never preferred it to my Prelude.

dis car iz gud. For DD, occasionally fun purposes anyway. I've had one all through college and I'm about to graduate. I've been beating the crap out of it and the clutch has broken and the ball joints are bad, otherwise it's still fine.

The only thing that's been deterring me from getting an RSX Type S is the price. I can't seem to find a nice one for sub $10k. How's the gas mileage on a Prelude, specifically the Type SH?

Depends. Only get a manual for starters. I own a 4g SE (2.3 liters w/out VTEC) and I get 21-23 in mixed driving (I'm pretty heavy footed). I've seen as high as 36 on the highway though on long trips. I imagine the 5g with VTEC gets better mileage if you drive it nice.

As a word of warning though, avoid the SH. It's neat and all that, but it's insanely expensive to maintain the transmission and if it breaks god help you. I can attest to the fact that the handling is more than adequate without torque-vectoring. Just learn adequate throttle control and trail braking if you really want to get it to handle. Not to mention it adds almost 200 lbs to the weight.

Get the EP3. Contrary to popular meme's, Civic's don't suck and are very reliable. That last thing you need is your car to die out on exam day.

The EP3 is the perfect balance between reliability and fun.

True but compared to a Prelude, unless you need the space why bother? Mine has been absolutely as bulletproof as any other Honda, and I run the piss out of it. Except I make 30 more lb/ft of torque through a lower ratio gearbox. A type S would be pushing 30-50 more HP as well.

Get any SI but that one. Among the shifter being one of the worst placed in car history( the fucking dash board) the interiors are worse than a mazda 3 and doesnt have nearly the punch as one of those or a tC, which i would consider both in the same category with reliability, effecient, and just a touch of fun. If you're gonna get 21-23 out of a prelude, get a GT v6 tiburon or a late 90's bimmer.

My friend's 3 or 4 year newer Mazdaspeed 3 doesn't have a better interior, and the gearstick is completely boss.

Don't get me wrong, I looked at a V6 Tib myself, but it just doesn't compare to the Prelude. And it certainly won't match its handling prowess.

All 7th gen civic interiors are good quality. Maybe you're referring to the lack of buttons.

The shifter is in the perfect place, right beside the wheel. It's only in the wrong place if you wanna cruise like a gangster, with one hand on the wheel and one on the shifer 24/7.

10G's, as you stated about the RSX, will get you plenty of car nowadays.

the gearstick is the shittiest spot ever as far as cosmetics go, and that looks uncomfortable as fuck in city traffic
