I got my driving licence one year ago, and since i can drive, i drive my father's Volvo S60 (2003-2007), diesel one (frenchnewfag reporting in), D, 5 cyl, 126 hp/93 kW, 300 Nm, diesel, turbo. I know that the car is heavy (~1500/1600kg), but can you tell me WHY there is no power when i go through 3500rpm ? (red zone is at 4500).
Is it because of the engine is a diesel one ? Is this commun in other diesel engine ?

yes, it is common. i shift at around 3.5k, so it drops to 1.8-2k, which is exactly in the peak torque range. but i have steady (though not a flat curve) torque until 3.2k.
on non-autobahn/normal city traffic, i shift at 2k, turbo is working some 70% from 1.3k, where the revs are at then. all in all, i'm basically staying on the torque-band all the time

I see. So, is this useless to go to high on rpm on this kind of engine ? Implying i only try to go +4000 rpm a few time, just to check that the engine is still responding :D
