The LRA will produce better numbers on a track assuming all other factors are equal for cheaper as well but you don't get the subjective benefits of AWD.
Believe it or not people actually need to do R&D. Subaru, being a relatively small manufacturer must pass more of its R&D costs per car car than something like Ford. Combine this with Ford only needing to design an LRA and Subaru designing a rear biased awd system with controllable centre locker and independent suspension all around, Ford can afford to crank out a cheaper, faster car.
