I love the NSX but I'm not sure what you're trying to compare. I'd personally take the NSX, even though it's going to be slower in most if not every aspect. It's a car you don't see every day, and depending on your aesthetic preferences, looks better. If I just wanted to haul ass all over the place I'd go for a corvette.

Performance-wise the corvette wins, although any corvette that will be faster won't be all that much cheaper than a 1st gen NSX. you could always supercharge the NSX if you have $10k burning a hole in your pocket.

i'd rather the NSX because its a fucking NSX and the corvette is "just a corvette". the last time i was in the city I saw 4 C5 z06s and a ridiculour number of regular C5s running around. I've only seen an NSX once... ever. wouldn't mind one of the old LT5 ZR1s or a C5 z06 either though.

This too. It's the kind of car retired people buy where I live, so it's always some white-haired old guy driving it around that you know probably doesn't know much about cars and just bought it because to them it's the epitome of everything PERFOOOORMANCE.

I think the NSX is a fantastic car, but it's like the BMW M1: Fucking phenomenal for it's time, but isn't holding up performance-wise enough to justify the current pricetags.

Meanwhile, Corvette production is high enough that the prices make sense. A C4 Corvette can be picked up for $5-10k, and it performs about on par if not slightly better than other used cars for the same price. A C5 can be picked up for $15-25k, and it blows most cars in it's price range out of the water.

It's also not utterly sacrilegious to modify (or wreck) a corvette, meaning you can actually go out and enjoy it.

Give me an NSX for $10k, and I'll swing that way, but right now I can get a used Z06 for used NSX money, and it takes a SMALL track before the mild handling advantage of the Honda will be enough to make up for the ginormous power advantage or the Chevy.

from lurking on nsxprime i've learned that most acura dealers won't even do work on them. you need an "NSX mechanic" for anything important

on the other hand its pretty much a fucking accord engine with a FWD trans, how hard can it be to wrench on yourself?

Keep in mind that there's no forced induction, and the engine really wasn't designed to push every bit of performance out of it as possible. It's far better equipped for daily driving. The cost of replacement parts might outweigh a corvette part, but I'd guess the frequency of needing to replace shit is far less than that of a corvette.

In literally every other aspect, I'd take a Z06. Compared to the base model Corvette...I'd have an NSX. But I love the notchback look on the C5 Z06 and the new Z06 is just a goddamned monster.

It's probably more to do with how it's utilized in the drivetrain. My guess would be the NSX sacrificed any kind of gas saving gear in exchange for less weight.

Combine short gears with an engine that revs extremely quickly to 6000~ rpm and then eats gas and you have a car that... well, eats a lot of gas. and makes a lot of noise on the freeway. c5 z06 is probably a "better" street car in every way. Supercharger kits for the NSX are like 10 grand or more. the comptech kit doesn't make that much power on the 6 psi pulleys anyways, brings it up to about 270 whp and 240 wtq, or enough to run 12s. 9 psi is a whole different story.

I'm not a jaydm fanboi but I would take the NSX as a weekend car/HPDE toy.

That being said, as an all out track whore the C5/C6 Vette (most likely a Z06 given the prices) would be my choice to beat the bag out of on the track. I've never personally driven an NSX (though I have ridden in one) but I have driven a C5/C6 Z06 and there is no way I could ever get used to the on-road driving dynamics of a Vette for anything other than a Hoosier-clad track slut.
