I'm looking for a college where I can study photography in the states. I'm from Europe.

So far, I've read that all of the "Institute of Art" colleges/universities are shit, and that good colleges are for example Savannah College of Art and Design and Academy of Art San Francisco.

I just don't really know where to look. Any suggestions for colleges with good photography programs?

you learn all that technique bullshit in the first three semesters. the rest of your time is spent learning how to work with ridiculous, ridiculous deadlines, networking, and hopefully learning what kind of photos you eventually want to make.

If you want to be a professional photographer, take your basic core classes, read up on things that interest you, and find a good business school and major in small business. You'll be 10 steps ahead of any one who comes out of any art photo school, even if you aren't as good as them in won't matter if you can market and know how to be a business professional.

I'm enrolled at a community college majoring in photography my self, and unlike the four year schools around here there are business classes incorporated in the program. I see no reason why I should go into debt over photo classes.

Sure there are lots of schools that will focus more on technical skill, but I think the best ones emphasize more on conceptual development.

Ask most people with an MFA if they think technical skill is more important than the artists ideas and they will probably laugh.

SCAD is awesome.

I live about 30 minutes from it and am attending Armstrong.

I wish I had the money and willpower to go there. Though I'm not creative enough and I'm not that great with anything.

Every year they have some events like the sidewalk chalk deal, some of the stuff they draw is absolutely amazing.

You should try and get into there.
