Every site is the same. At any given moment there are literally millions of photos begging to be critiqued and only thousands - maybe only hundreds - of people available at that moment who might be interested in offering a critique or offhand remark.

If you start up your own blog you'll be gratified by initial comments from online friends. If you persist you'll develop a clot of sycophants who'll tell each other what they want to hear. See if you can avoid the temptation to pre-screen comments or delete comments you don't like.

Want honest critiques? First, you need to give more than you get, usually by a margin of 100:1. Then you need to graciously accept any and every critique, comment and insult that comes your way.

yeah.. that shit happens. and odds are good that those photos will hit explore due to a few hundred bullshit comments.

but a photoblog... do you think its neccessary?
theres millions of em that no one reads.
i had one for almost 2 months & had 0 hits/visitors so, i dumped it.
just keep doin what yer doin until you're ready to to have a domain & a professionally designed website.
you'll take it more seriously & only upload your best stuff if you are paying for it.

Seconding this there are C&C groups on flickr example http://www.flickr.com/groups/photographycritique/

you make a thread post the pic you want c&c explain exactly what sort of help or opinions you are looking for and then they rip you a new asshole. If you do this you should comment on some others too

Oh and if your shit sucks or has no subject they won't c&c it and don't flood it with every crappy hipster snapshit in your 3000 photo flickr account or you wont get any c&c

Flickr is about engagement, not passively receiving praise.
If you favorite, friend, and make meaningful or helpful comments on others photos, you will get it back.

Engage with photographers that you have real interest in. Done.

If you think no one cares about your Flickr, wait till you start a blog.

The better ones moderate, I.e. Really insist on something meaningful being said.
The other place to troll are the 'battle' groups. While they sometimes are full of total shit... There can be some pretty nice people there and from time to time... Some talent.

Pro Tip: Flickr is a photo sharing site. It's not a photography criticism site. There are groups for photography criticism, but you can't just toss your shots up there and expect people to spontaneously critique you.

You're probably just used to /p/ and similar sites when people can hide behind a veil of anonymity and slag people off without repercussions. Most people (myself included) would not feel comfortable giving C&C to a random person on the "most recent" page unless specifically asked to in the description, as some people can get over-offended with it, or get quite down. Their flikr may be purely a site to upload their photos/holiday snaps to share with family/friends easier, rather than it being for artistic merit.
