Firstly, read your entire manual. Know all the settings by heart and exactly what each of them do.
Secondly, this is sure to cause some rage, you should shoot in JPEG until you understand how to properly process your RAW images. Without any sharpening, noise reduction, saturation/hue adjustments, and colour settings, your RAW images are going to look fairly bland compared to JPEG.
Also, for the troll who thinks that other troll was comparing Nikon's flagship to Canon middle line, you sir are retarded. The D3X has better IQ than every Canon ever built. Also D7000 has less noise than any comparable Canon, included the 7D.
