/p/ i'm in a weird situation. I got a message through my flickr today from a publishing company asking me if they could publish a photo in one of their books. Which i find actually kinda cool, despite the fact that it'd be a trade.

However, the photo they choose is one i regret taking simply because I feel it's disrespectful (back to the dorky "is it proper to take pics in a cemetary" thing). Am I just being an idiot and should say yes, or should I stuck with what I feel and say no ?

Pic related, it's the one they want.

i wouldn't say it's disrespectful. this is a military burial site, right? a good picture of those always brings about respect for all the soldiers that died protecting their country etc. i don't see any disrespect here.

It's a respectful photo. It shows the graves and this piece of cemetery in a nice way. Do you agree with their use of it? If so, it doesn't seem like you're doing anything disrespectful to anyone who's name could be read on there. And admittedly, they're grave markers, you expect that there will be names.

Kinda in the same boat as your Liska. I've got work for school that I did on Veterans Day from the Veteran's Cemetary and it was due today. I decided now to print anything I took at the cemetary, I'm a dyed in the wool /b/tard, but I didn't feel right turning it in. Growing up on military bases probably has something to do with it.

Given your discussion of WHY you feel it may be disrespectful, I am not even sure how publishing comes into it -- if I understand you, you're most concerned about whether it is OK to walk around in the cemetary and take the pictures, and that has already happened.

FWIW, I also believe in life after death, and my thought is that I would not mind you being there taking pictures, or publishing pictures, or keeping my name "alive" if you can read it in a picture. I also don't plan to be hanging around the cemetary, as I suspect there will be more interesting things to do, but who knows...
