>>294832If you're shooting sports, and it's mostly daylight work, you may want to trade a bit of high-ISO performance for speed and go for a nice used D2X. They've become quite affordable (I got mine for $1500 in near-new condition last summer, and they've continued falling), and the AF and battery life are awesome, less points than the 300, but blazing fast, and I personally find that the 12pt AF lets me switch to follow action as it changes much more effectively than the 51pt. Don't bother with a D2Xs, by the way, the only thing it offers is the viewfinder matte while in high-speed crop and a slightly better screen in terms of viewing angles (from head on, it's exactly the same), all the other Xs features were added to the D2X with the firmware 2.0 update.
I love mine, the only problem is the noise at very high ISOs, and that would require upgrading to a D3 to really solve. D2s isn't that terrible, either, especially if you're not looking at it from a noise critique perspective. I shot this one at 3200.
