>>295006A lot of it seems to be kids wanting to be "cool" and "alternative/retro" or just trying to be different for difference sake, with the hope that that will somehow give their work merit when skill and talent has failed. Those would be the ones buying the plastic junk.
If someone wanted to buy one of the many decent old TLR from eBay or something for nostalgia reasons (having used them in the past) or as a kid wanting to learn the basics of film and photography then I'd be happy to help them and sometimes even give them one of my old cameras that I tend to collect and refurbish. It's nice to see them put to use and usually they learn something from using these old mostly manual cameras.
Back when Diana and all the others first came out they were known as garbage toy cameras when we were all using film. They were worse than even the cheap consumer and disposable cameras in every way. It's crazy that kids are paying so much money for them now and that their original reputation and prices seems to have been quietly swept under the carpet. Of course the fact that these cameras are being sold in fashion type stores explains a lot. Urgh.
