Yeah, almost all of the shots were bounced. The three here are all bounced, and it works pretty well, as you can see. Metering was E-TTL II in fully auto mode.

Anyway ive found lots of people have difficulty using an SLR properly, the number of people who have issues with the eye-viewfinder thing is amazing.

I've never been hazed. Hazing was big until it got out of hand a few times and put on worldwide news. Now there's a no tolerance policy and Marines who do it are punished pretty severely.

If you think the military is a bad alternative to college, you need to do your homework. I've got job experience as an air traffic controller, and soon I'll have an FAA Control Tower Operator's License, which will put me way ahead of anybody trying to go into ATC straight out of high school or college. Also, when I get out of the military, I'll be able to go to any college in my state full time for free, including an allowance for housing so I can rent an apartment.

tl;dr join the fucking military and reap the benefits

What you needed was a reflector card. O just a peice of white paper wrapped with an rubber band or anything to hold it to the back of the flash. Then you could have bounced off the ceiling and the reflector would have filled the front of their faces.

BTW does anyone know if the 580EX II has a faster flash rate than the 430EX? I would love to have a flash that can get close to the FPS of continuous shooting on my 450D.

If you are just using E-TTL and not the Manual mode, the charging time should be sufficient for you not to worry about it.

both will have about the same speed, except the 580 can retain the same recycle time even at full power, which is a lot more power than the 430

and the 580 will fire at half charge (not ready light on) so you can still salvage an underexposed shot whereas the 430 will give you a black shot
