I currently use a 35mm manual camera (pic very related) and I'm getting tired of it because I have to buy film all the time.

Christmas is coming up so I'm thinking of getting a professional digital camera. I'm not very knowledgable with how to work one or which ones are considered the best so I need some help.

Which professional digital cameras do you prefer? Any price range is fine, but an affordable camera is preferred.

And any tips on how to work one? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have used canon my whole life, I started on a Canon AE-1, I still use it today. I am a professional photographer and that camera got me all started.

I shoot instant, film, and digital - they are all great to shoot with!

If you are looking for information on Canon lenses and camera bodies then http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/ is great place to look. He shows all the differences and grain detail of lenses etc.

I would suggest you know how to use a manual camera because once you go digital, knowing correct settings will really help in taking great photos.

I have shot with so many cameras and there are many price ranges. What is your price range?

while i dont use my AE1-p becasue i cant find a +.5 diopter lens for the viewfinder, i do shoot all film.

what helps for me, is buying in bulk. say always buying in bricks when i can. heres a good place, cheaper than Freestyle.

my price range is something between 500 to 1000 dollars.

don't get me wrong, manual is fun to shoot with. But I think its time I move on and get a good professional digital camera. So far i see good recomendations. I want to make sure that with the digital camera I get, I get good detail.

Don't mean to steal the thread but I'm also looking for a DSLR specifically a canon as did the op i too shot with the AE-1 and I'm looking for a really cheap camera and from my local shops all i could find is a 350 dollar pentex i'm even willing to look for an older model 2004 even anyone care to help?

If you have a lot of good glass, stick with the same system. There aren't really any bad 'pro' cameras out there right now, there are differences sure, but it's all down to individual preference.

DSLRs are designed to work in practice almost identically to SLRs. You'll be at home, trust me.
