D40x: does it have autofocus? any other advantages, better variety of lenses?

Canon: sensor vibrator worth it? better sensor than nikon? autofocus and all that jazz good for beginner?

Or should I just use the overrated D40?

Canon XTi is a fully functional camera that fits squarely into the hands of a beginner, while allowing for a lot of room to grow in. Its only defects are lesser construction quality in comparison to its semiprofessional and higher level counterparts.

D40/D40x/D60 are all crippled cameras that expect you to buy a new body if you wish to take your hobby further. It has the same defects as the XTi, plus a few more important ones.

yea but nikons look cooler imo. made me feel more important holding a solid d40 than a camera labeled "REBEL" in a novelty font.

in all other respects i'm sure canon is better, but as a pretentiousfag i have an image to maintain.

question: has canon kept the same mount since the 70s too?

answer: most people who claim that the ability to use legacy lenses is a reason to buy into a pentax or nikon system will never use a legacy lens. this is because they are manual focus and lack VR (for nikons, pentax has it in camera so you don't have to pay for it every god damn time.)

i got a 50mm f/1.8 manual focus for my d40... shit works great for portraits and if u have time to meter/guess and focus.

if i'd even heard of pentax before i got into photography, i probably would've gone with that.

No, Canon changed from the all manual focus FD mount to the EOS EF stuff in the 80's when they invented autofocus for their lenses.

Not that this matters for most people, except for Ken.
