Whats wrong/right about my photos here? I feel like I'm still lost trying to get composition right and now with a dslr I feel like I'm just snapping away like a machinegun and just grabbing the best pics out of a pile of fail. This time I tried to tone it down and keep it to one or two shots of a scene before moving on. There any good guides to getting this down, or is it really just something you have to click on yourself?

Well, you have to practice your compositions. If you didn't mention that was a trail marker, I would have been completely WTF. As it is, it's not a good shot. DOF is too thin. Angle is not good. The marker leads my eye out of the frame.

DOF still too small. A picture of fungus by itself is not very interesting.

Again, composition. It doesn't look like you're trying that hard to take a good picture. Instead, it looks like you're just taking pictures of whatever you see. Also, the picture is not level at all.

I feared that with all 3, what are some strong point to prep for in a shot? Say, for the marker, if I boxed in the marker in the frame, came up a bit higher in the shot and got a deeper depth, would it be marginally better?

I see these are all digital. As long as your battery is fully charged, I would recommend trying several different angles to experiment with what works and what doesn't. As long as you like doing it and you want to put the work in, I'm sure you'll be fine.

get rid of the branches. that only works if you're using xtrem small aperature.

Jump over the fence next time; it looks like there might be some interesting shit over there, but just two trailers parked is pretty boring.

Limit yourself to 24 photos per session and think about each photo before taking it. Also don't delete any photos. It pays to analyse what you've done and what you need to improve on.
