hey all, I just thought i'd like to get into papercraft, seems pretty relaxing. A thread like this on most boards on here would incite rage and gtfos, I thought this place might be different as it seems pretty zen, idk maybe i'll get that or just lurks moars whatever.

so any suggestions as to how I should start or should I just google ORIGAMI and start with boats and hats and shit, then work my way up to like the crazy shit you guys do.

so i have dabbled in simple origami...dollar koi look like a pain in the ass because of the interleaved folds.

insects look diffcult too but not as bad as the koi.

am i righ or wrong? :-)

Those folds aren't individually sunk or anything, you just fold one diagonal at a time and it's really simple. The hardest part is actually the head. Also, the size and thickness of the dollar bill makes it slightly hard to shape well, but technology-wise it's a walk in the park compared to most Lang insects.

Depends on the insects, obviously. But assuming that you're talking about the realistic-looking models, then you're wrong. Maybe.

Most of the realistic insects have relatively simple bases, but then you have to thin the limbs and shape the head. Both can be tricky, and you do need some very thin paper for most. And then there's the need for MC/wet-folding.

The koi can be folded from a dollar bill, so it's not nearly as bad.

But there are plenty of simple insect models. They just don't look exactly like real insects.

Katsuhisa Yamada has a comparatively simple beetle, but doesn't look nearly as realistic as one by Lang.

To the OP's original question, if you enjoy minecraft at all, just google "Minecraft papercraft" and make some of the things that come up. Since everything is based in cubes and rectangular prisms, it acts as a very easy introduction. You even have lee way (sp?) to form your own mods to the pattern (I.e. Figure out how to make functioning joints for your creepers or whatever)
