sup /r9k/. i've seen some threads here about people who work for Microsoft. So do I. Except I'm pretty sure I am higher up than they are..

Ask me anything about Windows or Microsoft. Like the other employees, stupid questions like: "WHY DOES WINDOWZ SUCK" will not be answered. Keep it constructive, and I'll answer.

Sidenote: Why doesn't any other company have employees that do this?

I've mentioned Win8 but onlu vaguely. We only have vague ideas as to what it will be. When we started planning Windows 7 in 2007, we said "okay, here is what we want to do for Win7" and we came up with a TON of ambitious stuff. Well, we analyzed all the work that would need to be done, and said "Alright, well here is what we can fit in for Windows 7, the rest will be in Windows 8." As well, some concept projects that have been 10+ years in the making will be done for Windows 8. So no, it isn't a preview of 8.

In the past with Windows Longhorn, we said "okay here is what we want to do" and showed off what we wanted to do. After that, we THEN looked at what we COULD do, but for some dumb reason, we showed off what we would have liked to do... really fucked us.

I installed the beta. The same design issue is very much there. I think Windows would look much sharper to almost anyone without those ballooned up borders and their too-large rounded corners (some rounding is good). I wish you guys would include that in your reaction tests and see what people think.

In Vista, many of the interfaces are completely different from XP (even little things, like My Computer = Computer). The Control Panel (amongst other things) is completely changed around from XP, apparently arbitrarily (I can't see any advantages of the new arrangement). You know, it's kinda funny how much people will think about an OS based on how it looks.

I have alot of windows fans back at college and whatnot, and they think i don't have vista because i opt for the classic mode, than the shiny-3d look. I don't really mind that at all.

Anyways, just a curious question, how does it feel when your company does hard work to make a new interesting interface, only to be rejected for the previous theme?

One of many examples:
I once spent half a day trying to figure out why Microsoft's AJAX was silently failing in one site but not another, and by trial and error found that having xhtmlcompliance mode=legacy in the web.config was incompatible with ASP AJAX.

Then I did a search and found many 3rd-party blogs bitching about the same problem and giving their same conclusion. The only mention on MDSN is a small, hard-to-find community-added content blurb on the page about the xhtmlConformance tag.

I swear, doing anything slightly complicated in ASP.NET takes 5 times as long as you'd normally expect it to.

What the fuck. I've got an ancient 1.86ghz Centrino single-core processor and 1.5gb of RAM (used to be only 508MB before I upgraded it) on my laptop, and I never had problems like that.

Even my parent's ancient desktop, with it's 400MB of RAM (!) can run VS without lag like that.

The latter. MS has been in catch-up mode since IE6, and they still can't keep up with Safari, Firefox, Chrome, or Opera. The features are there, but it's still comparatively slow and some pages are still broken where they would work in other browsers (for example, Google Checkout).

But srsly, have you seen how much better they look set to 0? When you do this though, it causes a 3 pixel fault in the top left corner in Vista and 6801. It's from where the bloated corners didn't expect to be shrunk. Let's at least fix that?
