Post every cool story or event told to you by your relatives.
My uncle was a crew chief in Vietnam and flew a Sikorsky UH-34 helicopter. A few years ago he and his fellow veterans found a mostly intact UH-34 in a junkyard and set about rebuilding it to its former glory. 5 years work done through spare time and donations, and it was fully repaired and ready to fly.

while my grandpa was stationed in korea in his barracks when he was alone a man approached him and hit on him, the guy was obviously gay but see, grandpa louie wasnt too happy about this and decided to beat the living shit out of him, he never got in trouble, im assuming the guy didnt say anything to a superior. also he said him and a few other soldiers killed a man and buried him in a wet sidewalk somewhere in asialand. hard to believe but sounds cool as shit.

My great-grandfather was drafted by the Milizia Voluntare Anticommunista, a catholic, italian-funded quisling organization fighting the Yugoslav partisans in 1941. He and his best friend were captured two years later by the partisans and told that they would be able to be integrated in partisan ranks, being simple peasant folk. It was just then that the Germans and their allies launched an offensive towards the spot where he was being held - he and his friend were hastily executed during the retreat using shovels, as the Germans were too close by and would be alerted by gunshots. My great-grandfather's eye reportedly popped out of his head before he was finally done in, and the confusion and disgust that this caused enabled his friend to feign death. He was taken by the Germans, becoming a Gestapo officer in the final two years of the war. He was later executed by the Communist authorities for treason after being surrendered to them by the Allies.

And my uncle was elected the best sailor of the Atlantic fleet when he was in the Navy and went on to commandeer an entire destroyer, never saw any real warfare though.

oh i got a military related one. relative of mine (dont remember who was told loooong time ago) in some war prolly vietnam covered a grenade with his body to protect his platoon. i was told they couldn't find barely anything left of him.. besides gore id assume. mm.. hows that for some camouflage.

My father's cousin, Robert, was a drug addict during the 60s and 70s and was constantly checking himself into and out of rehabs.
He was suave and very persuasive, and would constantly sneak out of his room at night and go clubbing, convincing ladies to come back to rehab with him and stay the night. It was relatively easy for him to get the ladies there, because his roommate at the rehab was a famous musician. So heres my cousin, drinking and partying while being serenaded on guitar the one and only James Taylor.
He got in a car accident a while back and lost feeling in both of his legs, ultimately taking his life a few years ago, but he was one hell of a badass.

Also my dad once saw Bruce Springsteen performing before he got famous. It was a crowd of about 12 people in a small bar somewhere in Boston, my father being one of the 12. He's a superfan now and tells the story to anyone who will listen

My maternal great grandfather served in WWI and WWII.

Paternal grand father was highest ranking Freemason in Canada. His brother was going over to fight in WW2. He got drunk before and missed the boat to England, watched it sail away from the dock, it got sunk by a U-boat. He spent the rest of the war stationed in Newfoundland and got a foreign service army pension to boot. (Him being Canadian and Newfoundland not joining confederation until after the war.)

My father did a bit research of my grandpa, who served in the finnish winter war, few years ago. He found out that his father was awarded many medals and promoted for killing commies. The bad thing was that my grandpa was serious alcoholic and drank his way through the war. He was jailed and demoted many times for making/drinking alcohol but he was always quickly released because he was too good with the rifle.

When he came back from the war he didn't speak much of it. He also had drinking sprees where he would go to town to buy a cow but then disappeared for weeks and came back with no money nor cow. He also burned his familys home once.

3 of my great grandfathers were soldiers fighting in ww2 on the german side. 2 died in stalingrad, while the third one survived and was about to be deported to a russian workcamp in siberia, but he jumped off the train and escaped.

My dad captured a squad of Republican Guards during Desert Storm 1. My uncle used to fly President Clinton in Marine One. My grandpa flew helicopters during Vietnam, and his helicopter is now on display at the front gate of New River Air Station.

My grandfather was placed in a concentration camp when the japs invaded Indonesia. Every Dutch person on Indonesia was put in a camp because Indonesia was a Dutch colony back then. Ive done some research about those camps recently and some horrific stuff happened there. He never talked about it though and unfortuntely he's dead now :(

My grandfather was training to become a kamikaze pilot shortly before WWII ended. If the A-bombs never dropped, I wouldn't be alive. During the war my family on the Japanese side owned factories that made parts for Zeros.

My great grandfather on my American side founded BFI, Browning Ferris International, next time you look at a dumpster or garbage truck you will probably see BFI labeled on the side.

My grandparents were members of the Koon Kreek Kountry club. It was a country club in Dallas for wealthy whites and I'm assuming only whites. I don't really know anything about it, but the name explains a lot.

My grandfather was fighting in WW2 on various important fronts. He later wrote a book about it and became rich. He's dead now and he basically spend all his money on hookers and alcohol, which is damn cool but FUCK YOU GRANDFATHER I WANTED THAT MONEY.
Also my father was kept in prison in the DDR for years because he celebrated Hitler's birthday.

When my mother was a little girl her mother made her do all the housework and was basically slaving her.

Her grandmother was lying in a mattress in the next room, dying. For months my mother, as a little girl, took care of her dying grandmother, changed her when she shat herself, spoon fed her mashed food, carried her around.

At night my mother couldn't fall asleep because her grandmother was moaning in pain in the next room all night long.

In addition to taking care of her grandmother my mom also had to do all the housework, clean, cook, kill the chicken and so forth (this was Hungary around '60).

One day my mom was feeding her grandmother at the dinner table tomato soup when the grandmother died. It was instant and unmistakable, even for a 10 y/o girl, because her face went completely white when the blood stopped flowing.

Her mother told her to pick up the grandmother from the dinner table and take her to the bed and my mom refused. Her mother threatened to beat her and she refused.

Her mother went around the neighborhood asking everyone for help with the burial but no one agreed. Finally one of the neighbors came over and helped move the grandmother to the cemetery

Where my mom watched the funeral from a distance.

Dad was a semi-professional boxer, then worked on the railroad before becoming a doctor later in life.

I'm in college now to become a lawyer but I guess I'll end up as a doctor, too.

my dad was the navigator on a C130 operating under Military Airlift Command(MAC) during Vietnam. They were suppose to deliver a light recon tank to a forward outpost, but during the flight a mad crazy typhoon hit land. They were forced to drop the tank in the jungle to keep from going down . After the storm stopped a recon team went out to find the tank they dumped. It apparently had landed in the middle of a VC camp and had crushed the tents of the gorillas during the storm. My father and the whole flight crew got confirmed kill counts.
