I have alot of quiet spots around my city I love to just sit in and think, places noone else ever goes to.

I tried showing my ex-girlfriend them but she didn't enjoy them, thought it was weird sitting in a out of the way spot.

We eventually ended up at what seemed to me at the time to be a hidden bohemian hostel where her friends were staying after the rave. I regret being an anti social idiot and not keeping in touch with her after that day, but I've grown up a lot through the years and the rave scene wasn't really for me.

In reality she got bored within 5 minutes and said we should go back to her place and watch a movie or something.

Worse part is, that spot is right by her house. So whenever I bike or drive over there, I have to pass her house.

3 years ago I lost my fiancee and my 6 month daughter in a car accident because of some motherfucking drunk driver. I was the only one to survive and I saw them die without being able to do anything. During the next 2 years I was but a ghost. Every corner, every streets, every lights remembered me of them. As if the pain was not strong enough, I was living 300 meters away from the place of the accident, passing by everyday.

Alcohol and drugs destroy what was left of me, so I decided to kill myself. I took all the stuffs of my daughter and wife and put them in the middle of the living room and set it on fire. And I sat, waiting. The fire burnt every fast thanks to all the alcohol bottle I had. Soon the whole house was burning. At this moment I was choking because of the smoke but I saw a picture of me and my so loved family. I dunno why but I decided to live. I Rushed through the door and left, with only my wallet and my clothes.

I left the town, for week everyone thought I was dead in the "accident", as my house burnt for 15 hours nothing was left but ashes. I was just a "missing body". For real I decided to search my roots, I grew up with my grand ma and I've never knew my parents. I didn't want to find them, just to see the place where I was born, where I spent my 4th first years.

I know this feel, I used to deliver newspapers in highschool. There was no greater feel than driving through town at 3 AM with everyone asleep and all the traffic lights blinking yellow due to being reset at midnight. I'd have my music on, windows open enjoying the nice summer breeze, and was able to enjoy a job where I was pretty much free to do what I wanted as long as the papers got where they needed to. Occasionally when I'd deliver to gas stations I'd meet some interesting people. I only had a few bad experiences with that job.

Sometimes I take a train to a city and just walk around. Tend to go at night; dark, cool breezes. I go there and walk for a whole evening and then take the train home, when the light appears and a decent connection is avaliable at the station.

Don't go anywhere in particular. Sometimes I find myself somewhere. To catch a breath or to explore. Sometimes I meet people. Some drunk people on there way home. Someone walking the dog. A smoker. Homeless. Person who has fought with there partner. We chat, we wander, we talk about life.

Sometimes I have been threatened and mugged. Felt the sting of a punch to the face or had the adrenaline rushing while being chased. Don't report it, don't need to.

But everytime I do this I feel enlightened.

Some friends at university asked me about the constant travelling and lack of sleep. I told them about it. One fought I should write a book about it, the people I meet and the adventures I have. The other thought I was mad and would be in a bad neighbourhood at the wrong time and get stabbed.

Doesn't matter. Its just so refreshing.

I miss everyone from that trip. I've gone on trips since then but most of the original folk graduated and it's all freshmen now. There's supposed to be a trip next year for college students as a sort of reunion, I just hope some of the people from my first trip come along.
