While no doubt there have been some real people responding to these threads initially, it has over time become obvious that there is some form of automated bumping taking place. Either a bot is involved, or some incredibly mentally disturbed person is going out of his way to prevent over 60 threads from 404ing (that's more than 4 full pages of of the 16).
There are no mods, no janitors, and [email protected] has not responded to dozens (hundreds?) of emails about this problem.
Yes, /r9k/ regulars can use 4chanX to identify and hide these threads, but new posters won't know which are which and just see a never-ending wave of shitty threads. They will quickly get bored and leave. This bot is strangling /r9k/ by driving away new posters, and re-enforcing the negative, depressive atmosphere of the board.
Don't believe me? Check pages 12-15 for greentext threads that are dying with only a handful of posts, while shitty bot threads have 200+.
What can we possibly do to breathe new life into this place?

This isn't a big deal to me. Even if the thread was started by bots, it can still be entertaining. And if it isn't, I just hide it. And I can always make a new thread if I need to (I almost never do). Plus, by the time stuff makes it past the fourth or fifth page it's pretty much gone to oblivion.
Anonymous
>>2575554 A lot of threads get pushed off the front page very quickly when the bots threads get bumped, as they tend to do so in large waves.
Some decent threads don't even get a chance before getting pushed off the front page, and consigned to oblivion. We're talking 2-3 replies before bot-induced death.
That's a problem. The bot threads and their horrible depressing content stay, and a lot of fresh and interesting threads die before their time. Makes the place boring and stagnant.

That's why the bot threads are survey threads; you expect the posts not to be related to each other in conversations. Since the bot doesn't know the post ID number of it's previous bumps, it can't back-link to simulate conversations.
Though there is a certain amount of back-linking, these are real posters who are unaware that it's an automated thread.
Simple look at the amount of back-linking in a real thread, and one of the bot threads, and it'll stand out clear as day.

c'mon though "collecting data"? none of these threads are like official-type question-and-answer survey threads, they're all open-ended questions: "does anyone else never even ____?" "how many of you ____?" "i [insert nerdloser behavior]. anyone else?" like they all just prompt people to post their shortcomings and personal stories... what actual data can be collected from that i stand by my upthread statement that this is the result of lonely desperation. i just don't see the data-collecting angle

>>2576496 It would have to be coordinated by a decent core of posters. We'd need 160 threads (I think?) for a full wipe, and we'd need to get workarounds against the time limit between making new threads for each anon involved in the assault.
If we had, say, 25 anons, with the average anon making three threads in the assault (each thread made in different browsers/devices), it could work. Wouldn't be a full wipe, but it would be fair enough.

Themselves. That's what the survey threads are about... it's not data collection. He wants to take us down, and he's formulated this thing with the survey threads because he knows /r9k/ is guaranteed to respond.

I've interacted with this guy... more than a few times over the last long fucking while. A few things: first, he's not trying to shut down /r9k/, because he did this shit when /r9k/ WAS shut down. It's not a meta thing to do with mods or boards. And it's not a marketing thing, even a stupid one - he's just too fucking weird. How could any thread be started by bots? They aren't bumped by random gibberish either, someone is obviously selectively responding to certain types of posts that use varied and complex syntax to explain different things and the bot responds in relation to those things. I correspond with the guy occasionally (we're both lazy apathetic shut-ins so contact isn't very frequent) and he's pretty friendly and nice. Honestly, I share his exact viewpoint that normals should just fuck off of /r9k/ and leave it to the original denizens. They have literally every other place on the internet to talk about the things they want to talk about; there is no reason for them to be here when their mere presence directly conflicts with the will of the inhabitants.
I'm not saying we have any more right to be here than they do, but given the above I kind of just feel like saying... fuck off and let us have the one miserable little place we feel at home. It's like finding a friend after being a loner your entire life and sitting with them at a lunch table, only to have the popular kids take over every single bench including yours and shout over you, taunt you when you talk about playing video games etc.
They have the right to be there, but they're just being obnoxious pricks.

i dont believe it's one person doing this. I dont believe just one crazy individual is making all these threads. it has to be a team doing this. either in their spare time or like paid researchers. for these types of threads to be poping up for this this much, so such a long time, I really dont think that just one dude will start threads like this. other parts of 4chan i can see one person starting the threads. in /b/ for example there are dudes who start threads obsessing over rose or internet girls, and those are done by individual dudes. but this, imho, is done as an organized effort. i dont know who.maybe moot lets them do this and get paid from it, hell, maybe thats why he revived r9k in the first place. ever ask yourself why a healthy board would die for no reason? either way this is defiantly creepy, even for r9k's standards. nice catch op.

/r9k/'s cancer was spreading to other boards, just like the sudden burst of racism on /pol/ when /new/ got deleted.
Moot didn't like having the boards there, most of 4chan didn't, they looked down on them like they look down on /b/ or /soc/. But when we were deleted, it was much worse, imagine /b/ getting deleted, everyone would just infect all the other boards. Having /b/ attract cancer is a necessary evil.
