Restaurant staff are by far the worst. Waitresses are some of the dumbest people in the world. 90% of them are stupid bitches that peaked in highschool. They scoff when they get bad tips. Maybe if you got my order right, brought my food warm, and made sure my drink was always full I would throw a couple bucks your way.
The managers complain the most. I guess I can understand that. If you work at a minimum wage job long enough to actually become the manager then I really do feel bad for you. How useless do you feel knowing that you have spent years of your life working up the service industry ladder to become THE MANAGER. That is the job designated to deal with all of the shitty jobs' shit. To bad it stops there, because you are never going to own the place on that salary.

Quit acting like you deserve respect for your pathetic job. Get me my fucking sandwich, bring me shoes that fit, take my reservation, cut my hair, bag my groceries. Enjoy the fact that minimum wage laws force us to pay you enough to survive on, or else you would be worth nothing.

I will grant you that a good amount of people in my job couldn't handle a million things, but two items is fine. Also, always order drinks first at a movie theater, we can let them fill while we do other stuff.

Personally, I can handle as much as you can throw at me. I had a lady the other day list of 15 things she wanted while I stared at her, once she stopped speaking I got it all and thanked her for being ready with her order. That is the other thing, when you wait on a big line, think about what candy you want (if you have kids, make them do it too), I can work as fast as you order unless you get something outlandish like a hot dog, so the reason for the line is your fellow customers not knowing what they want, not me.

As a middle manager your job is to enforce the will of some faceless corporate entity while soaking up the blowback from employees and customers. I've had a few somewhat rude customers, but most are polite. Of-course I am often being tugged in several different directions by different guests needing help (while I'm in a transaction), but they're usually being polite about it (just not aware that I can't be in several places at once).

Even the few rude customers I've had were actually polite at the end of the transaction (IE: they returned my "have a nice day" parting goodbye).

I have been working at my current retail job for 4 years. The first 2 years were the best. I knew all my co-workers, really great people and great workers who knew how to get shit done. This past year has been so shitty. All the people I have worked with past 4 years have either quit, got a new job, transferred or got fired.

New management sucks, new co-workers suck because they are mostly 30-70 years old who cant do shit as a cashier. All the fun I had during work is gone because there is no one remotely fun or interesting to hang with.

I dread going to work now because I've been there for a while and haven't really moved on with my life. Since all the people who really knew have moved on, I just feel like I'm stuck in this without anywhere to go.

Part of the reason there's such an entitled culture among the consumer base is because we let it happen. I blame the whole middle managment instantly flopping on policies and sucking customer dick, but if you do that in the first place you catch hell for it.

There are a few minor things that I do to combat it though and I encourage others to do the same. First off, always pretend every customer interaction that turns sour is a 4chan troll thread, practice your art of UMAD and learn to get happier and happier the madder they get (be polite enough to save your job of course, varies on management).

Secondly, and more importantly, if you're another customer and you see this type of shit go down CALL THEM OUT. As another customer you can say all the shit you want to as an employee and are not allowed to. You get to make the random dumbass look like an idiot, and the salesclerk will usually be appreciative and occasionally hook you up with extra shit once the asshole is gone (though don't do this purely out of expectation of reward, it's a social justice thing).

Your job does not matter. You do not matter. You are getting paid shit to do very little.

I just be helpful and nice like I would to any person outside of work and will go out of my way to help people who are polite, but I do not get invested in the job at all or take anything personally. It's just a shit job who gives a shit.

I work returns and literally take back fucking anything because why not? Why should I care if someone's trying to rip off this multimillion dollar company that pays me peanuts? I then go back to sitting and doing the bare minimum that I need to.

I refuse to become one of those 50 year old losers complaining about management or whatever the fuck other shit that doesn't matter one little bit and pretending my job matters because IT DOESN'T YOU GUYS

I work at a movie theater. Customers really are entitled pricks. Two from today at work:

She then said she has five dollars on one, and asked me if at least one of her popcorns was five dollars. I said one was under five, she handed me her card and I swiped for one of the popcorns. Then she flew her fucking handle, because it was four dollars and she still had a dollar left on her card. She started yelling at me about what could she do with one dollar on her card. Fuck some people. She was also holding up a giant line. Her and her husband came out two other times during the movie to complain about volume and heat in the theater.

Depends on what your position is. If you work 2nd or 3rd shift, you'll have minimal contact with customers most of the time, especially if you're in the back room.

Of course, every store is different. The one I work at seems way cooler than that other guy who replied.

The whole truck crew is made up of young guys, too. Pay is shit though...
