>>2982990God that fucking reminds me of all the idiot kids I've seen come through my neuroscience lab (we use rats).
One kid actually came to work in our lab despite having a fucking phobia of rats. It's totally normal for newbies to be apprehensious about picking up rats for a few days ("oh god what if I pick it up wrong and it bites me", "oh god what if I pick it up wrong and kill it") but they get over it quickly enough and usually become pretty good at handling the animals within a week or two. Not this kid. No, he absolutely refused to touch the rats and if you forced him he'd spend like five minutes trying to pick up one before awkwardly tossing it to wherever it was supposed to go. Unsurprisingly he was gone from the lab by the end of the semester.
Then there was this girl I worked with. She was a lot better and pretty good at her job. But one day...
>"Awww, these rats are so cute! I wanna poke one on the nose!"Trust me, you don't want to do that. Normal rats already try to bite anything you put in front of their faces. These rats though are even worse because they've been getting hit with a severe stressor every day for the past two weeks so they're pissed as hell
>"BUT THEY'RE SO CUTE! Look at this one, he's poking his head out and twitching his nose!">She puts her finger in front of itGODDAMNIT YOU RETARD WHAT DID I JU-
>She shrieks as the rat immediately tries to take a huge bite out of the tip of her fingerLuckily she only ended up with a giant hole in her glove. If that rat had been a little more patient though it could have probably taken off the tip of her finger.
