I think Osama died ages ago, we needed to keep the war going though, the security situation in Afghanistan was (is) still unstable.

Obongo now sees this ("Osama is dead - WE WIN!!") as a way to pull out of the war without appearing to "lose". Its costing too much, we are getting nowhere, we need to reduce dat deficit, we need to pull out of wars for a while.

God knows when Bin Laden died, it could have been 10 years ago for all we know, but i cant see how him being killed now, and they buried him at sea, the other side of the country, is anything other than a cover, to be honest.

tl:dr:
- Bin Laden killed/died ages ago
- we couldnt release it then, as pulling out of Afghanistan would fuck up the coountry - insurgents were too strong
- war is dragging on, people hatin on Obama, big deficits needed to be cut, need a morale boosting end to the war, we cant just "give up"
- "We killed Bin Laden! Mission Accomplished! Lets bring the boys home! The body? Erm, we buried him at sea!"

There was already a plan that within the next 60 days they were supposed to start sending troops back, even before this Osama news was just announced, so they are sending troops back but not because of Osama's death.

according to wiki that really doesn't have anything to do with traditional islamic funeral practice, and is actually only allowed if the person dies at sea and cannot be brought ashore before the body rots.
