As someone who is serving his 10th year in the Navy (I'm not OP) I must say that we all highly respect and salute the courage the Coast Guard shows on a daily basis. They risk their lives to save fuckheads who get themselves trapped in bad weather, they secure the borders, and they constantly fight dangerous smugglers, drug runners, and other lowlife scum.

That being said, they aren't DoD.

The Navy actually operates more aircraft than the air force. We also deploy them around the world via carriers. Furthermore, our pilots have to land on a carrier at night, which can be violently moving back and forth in rough seas and is only 1/4 mile long. Air force ar epussies.

True enough. Like I said, everyone in the Navy who's hit rough seas in a ship has a great respect for the seamanship of the Coast Guard, who operate cutters in 50 foot swells.

I have never in my life met someone in the USCG who could be described as "normal", particularly the engineers.

If we're ranking in terms of accomplishing anything actually useful. The Coast Guard is the only branch of the US military that does something that actually has a positive benefit for the country.
