True story IRL a buddy of mine was in construction and on the job, a guy fell off the roof in front of one of the new $20,000 windows. His safety line worked as advertised and he was dangling there.
The foreman tells my buddy to go upstairs and haul him up, and then, to his surprise gets told by the on-site OSHA inspector he didn't even know was there; that he has better break that 20k window and haul the guy in this very second, or he would be facing an $80,000 fine.
There's a lot of money in preventative safety, because almost anything is cheaper than a medical bill, or disabled benefits for life.
Back to 40 pound boxes, they are among the leading cause of repetitive motion injury to the spine. And no, back belts are next to useless, laws concerning them change yearly because no one can actually prove that they do anything.
Except constrict your abdominal arteries after a full day's work with it tightened. That is one thing it does do.
So to come full circle back to Mechs, that is where its economy will shine, in construction is where its design will be perfected, and in mass availability is when it will see action in Military.
In my fantasy world I even have them separated into "Jr", "Bulldog", and "Mac" weight classes.
