All Swarm units have 3-4 wounds per base and +1 to any cover save they get, and they can go to ground as well. Place them in a ruin with an objective and you have an objective-capturing unit with 9-30 wounds that is making all of its ranged saves on a 2+.

I think I just found Tyranids and Chaos Daemons' counter to shooty armies in objective games.

Swarms are awsome though but they do have their counters.

Swarms cannot claim objectives. They don't count as Scoring Units, as far as I'm aware.

Daemon swarms are somewhat workable as they get eternal warrior.

They don't capture objectives, since they're Swarms. Swarms cannot capture objectives, it says so either in the unit entry or in the Swarm USR. The only function of rippers is to be created by the Parasite of Mortrex. I suppose it's not a terrible idea to give them Spinefists and the Tunnel ability, so they can pop up and shoot, or something.

Scarabs are pretty good for contesting, though. I've also seen some build where a Destroyer-lord joins the Scarabs, which function as Extra Wounds and a few more attacks for it. I think it's super-cool, because it's like giving the Lord an upgrade of a cloak of scarabs surrounding and protecting it.

But in the Big Red Book it says exactly this: "Swarms represent a creatures that are too puny to be an individual threat on the battlefield, but when operating as a sea of dozens of smaller creatures they can destroy much larger enemies. All swarms have the 'stealth' and 'vulnerable to blasts/templates' special rules. In addition, intervening swarms never offer any cover save to monstrous creatures or vehicles."

Included is the picture taken from their unit profile in the book. Scarabs can not capture objectives because they are Fast Attack options. Nurglings and Rippers, however, are Troops.

And here we have their summary entry. Both Infantry and Troops throughout, with nothing anywhere even implying that they don't capture objectives like other troops.
