Quick question: I want to make a gnome inventor in 3.5, but I have no idea which class I should use or which book to look in. Any help? also general D&D thread

Now now, less aggression. I too need an inventor of some description, so finding which class helps me too. Despite what you may have thought, gnome inventors were around before WoW - the player's handbook even states that they love to tinker.

Effigy Master. Depending on how far you want to take it, you could also look into Renegade Master-Maker in Magic of Ebbearon.

Alternitavely, there's a good crafting class in the Dragonlance books, but it's mainly a buffed up Expert NPC class.

Though Expert's not bad, if not all that great either. There are also some good flesh-crafting classes in Libris Mortis if you want to go about it the creepy way.

Also, any arcane class does have the ability, later in, to go make some constructs, so there's always that.

Also, that image...something's not right there. Marvel and DC shouldn't be mixed like that.

Been thinking a little more about it, would plenty of ranks in various Craft skills cover it too? I basically want him to supply the party with gadgets and such, so Craft skills, item creation feats and some form of casting class? Not too bothered about optimization to be honest, just want it to deliver everything I'm looking for.

I don't really see how, that's a perfectly legit character concept, depending on the feel of the campaign.

Cheers guys, the effigy master may be what I'm looking for, maybe I should have added more information.

He's going to be like an alchemist/engineer, making gear for the party and using experimental weapons. I've got a few in mind, like potion bottles that can be fletched onto arrows in place of conventional arrowheads, and eventually steam power. TN that joined the party so he has someone else to test out his latest gadgets.
