You seem to be implying that using more abstractions leads to more number crunching?
That's a weird statement.
If the goal is to achieve some arbitrary grade of "real", you'd be better of with some level of GURPS. Because at some point to have to stop trying to achieve a "realistic" result because you can't possibly take everything into account. If you shoot a gun and want a realistic result you have to take into account the skill of the shooter, the available light, distance to the target, motion of both the shooter and the target, cross wind, bore of the gun, accuracy of scope, etc, etc, etc.
At what point are you satisfied?
So a simple roll of attack versus defense suffices. Which is a gamist approach. Which one of those involves crunching more numbers?
