A common motivation for Vikings was that they didn't inherit any land from their families and have no potential for livelihood other than plunder. Maybe the PCs are all the dispossessed sons of a large family looking to one-up their clever but physically frail older brother.

Oh, side note: I don't even necessarily want full character sheets (though that's fine too).

I'm leaning towards letting people use advanced maneuvers, but also letting people ignore everything that's outside the realm of GURPS: Lite (30 pages for the GM and player book combined, free pdf) if they want. Probably using hexes but not the actual tactical hex rules for now, since they look hard.

the tribe they were in was full of asshats that kept whining and complasining while being useless themselves, so the party left to find glory and show thier tribe how useless it is, hopefully insiring the tribe to shap up, as the party eventually leads the tribe to glory.

alternatively, they leave thier shitty tribe for good, roam the land in search of fine warriors and to recruit and relics to aquire, then lead the eventual warband into combat against thier slacker former clan and defeat them in glorious battle.

Or maybe the clan's patriarch was disgraced and deposed, and now the clan is disgraced and scattered, and the PCs have no choice but to keep them all together. Also, one of the PCs is an incompetent shaman with a severed orc head he talks to like a puppet.
