How is a monk getting close enough to attack a wizard? What the fuck is going on and what level are we talking about here?
Assuming 3.x 32pointbuy or PF 20PB, Wizard is going to have an int of 18-20 depending on race. Let's allow the monk to have 18 in Wis and Str, 16 in Dex and Con, and 12 in Int and Cha. Sure, it's ridiculous, but roll with it.
Wizard casts Fist of Stone and links it with his familiar. Encounter is over. because the Monk procs an AoO from the Familiar as he attacks the wizard. Wall of smoke, Cause Fear, Colour Spray, Sleep, Daze, shocking grasp - the wizard has so many ways to poop all over the monk at level 1 it's not even a contest. Sure, the Monk has a 40-55% chance to pass the save against some of the spells, but there's partial effects that are cumulative - shaken, dazzled, etc., all of which make the monk's job even harder.
At level 5, the Wizard has access to shenanigans like Grave Mist, Blindness, Web, Torrent of Tears, Hideous Laughter, Daze Monster, Warcry, Icelance, Hold fucking Person, Ray of Dizziness, etc. This is not including shit like his ghost horse and invisibility, transpositions, and direct damage shenanigans - or summon monster spells.
At level 13, he's got overwhelm, freezing fog, cloudkill, prismatic, solid fog, BLACK FUCKING TENTACLES YOU FUCKING LOSE, Enervation, Power words, Force cages, Insanity, Finger of death, plane shift. You're literally retarded if you think the Monk can blast through the 5-6 rounds required to even get within striking range of the wizard at this point, when the wizard is flying around on his fucking greater-invisibility mount at 240 feet per round making swift and standard action castings at you.
