Hey /tg/, I've been reading the Tactics pages on 1d4chan and I noticed orks have a "Dread List" with WALKERS, WALKERS EVERYWHERE using Mek Boss Buzzgob.

Now before I buy Imperial Armour 8 and get loaded on dreads and kans I want to know, are these FW stuff legal in normal 40k games? I've never dibbled in FW stuff so I have zero experience.

no however if you take 2 big meks, and fill your heavy section with deffdreads you can take 5 of the fuckers.

I don't remember if killa kans count as elites or heavies but if you really want to take a hoard o' dreads you can take 3 kans in a unit, so assuming that kans are heavy you can take 9 of them instead of 3 deff dreads.

It's not really legal, Forgeworld stuff is classed as an Expansion these days as I understand it. You want to play a game using Planetstrike or Spearhead rules? You ask your opponent. You're also very unlikely to see it allowed in competitive play, but friendly gamers rarely have issues with the bulk of Forgeworld stuff.

There is a stigma however, of Forgeworld stuff being overpowered and always superheavies. Most of their early releases were super heavy tanks, they do the titans and the big stuff, but they've moved far more towards variant army lists and foot soldiers now, if anything they're under-par on average (still with the occasional cheesecake weapon or option).

Yes I'm talking about the formation / FW army list. I can see FW have units with "experimental rules" for them which made me think the other stuff listed in IA volumes without experimental rules would be normal 40k legal. Otherwise wouldn't everything FW produce (except upgrade kits) be experimental?

The experimental stuff on the website is for things that have been released, but they haven't fine tuned the balance yet (what appears in Imperial Armour). The list in question from memory allows Deff Dreads are troops, lots of Meks and mek-inspired troops for elites and troops too, and the Mega Dread as Heavy Support (where most would argue it's broken without looking at the points cost).

But why walkers too? It is not like everyone can take troop walkers and in comparison MCs score just fine.

Forgeworld is legal in friendly games if you:

let the guy read your 200 dollar books before the game.
don't run achilles, old super mortars, dreadnought drop pods, assault rams, superheavies, titans, or fliers.
if you don't bitch like a child when you realize no one wants to play against your 9000 dollar fandex, with fragile models.

Forgeworld is legal in tournaments:

at adepticon's 'who has the biggest wallet'-event.

Forgeworld is legal in pickup games:

never.

To expand on this guy's good input - you will do yourself (and others) a great service if you can come up with two lists (ideally with maximum overlap of models):

-One full-fat FW list
-One standard codex list, using FW models as "counts as" where necessary

That way, you can begin by asking "Is it cool with you if I use a FW list?" If they say "I'd rather play a normal list" then you're still able to play.

In general, people have less issues with the 100% forgeworld armies, like kriegsmen, because then you can hand them one volume, rather than have them flick through 400 pages in six separate books, two GW codices, and this thing you printed out from some white dwarf piece of shit.

You are all the cancer killing Forge World. To be fair, and with the exception of the Achilles, is better than most of the shit you can do with the 'official' GW lists.
