Can anyone help me with a good background for my character's family? I'm thinking of something interesting without being the cliche "all killed when young". My character is a terrorist who was captured by the US government, and decided to turn informant and be given a new identity rather than spend a life in the slammer.

Setting: GURPS, mid 21st century, sort of cyberpunky but not ott (corporations are powerful but don't control everything, biotech exists but is rare), no aliens, elves or magic.
