>>14741892What's good in Discworld (IMHO):
1. The setting.
Almost the whole Disc is recreated at a 1x1 scale (which means, a huge forest is a huge forest of 100+ rooms, not 3 rooms with the flavor text saying "It's a huge forest").
If you've read (and liked) the books, this will provide you hours of fun – visiting familiar places, reading usually well-written room descriptions, meeting some characters from the novels, possibly taking a job described in the books (e.g., Assassins, Witches, Thieves), etc.
2. The community.
An unexpectedly tolerable bunch of people. Most MUDs I've tried have lots of DRAMA. DW isn't totally immune, there is some drama between some long-time players, but it's usually avoidable. Also, the community isn't stale, there are some newbies arriving each day. Also, tournaments, newspapers, etc. etc.
3. The rules.
Trolling is not tolerated. And at the same time, the rules are pretty liberal. Want to RP? OK. Don't want to RP? OK. Want to do quests? OK. Want to grind mobs? Want to create a party and do quests/grind mobs together? OK. Want to be a PK? OK. Don't want to PK/be PK'ed? OK. etc.
Downsides:
1. The RPG system.
IMHO, it's very unbalanced. However, killing mobs is still fun, especially in parties. Just don't expect the game to have a balanced economics/skills/crafting/items etc. system. The various classes are somewhat balanced between each other, though.
