Now, if you want anticlimactic....
Shortly after that, one of the rogues wanted to multiclass into a mage. He found a woman willing to train him, but gave him a bit of a quest first: To go to the graveyard and find a skull of someone who was pure. She needed it for a ritual. Easy task, right?
Nope: The entire graveyard had turned into a zombie fest or worse, specifically wights. They tried to be cute at first and take a wight skull, which turned to dust as soon as it hit sunlight. Several real-life weeks and 2 character levels later, they find a skull with a sword sticking out of it. The mage reads an inscription above it stating, in Gnomish, "Do not remove the sword. It will wake the mother demon." The rogue walks up to the beautiful sword and takes it because, and I quote, "It is pretty." The mother demon wakes up, they all get knocked to their feet, and then she disappears. They take the skull.
They get back to the woman who was going to teach the one rogue magic and examines it. "Very good," she responds, "this will do." Then she takes a hammer and says something in magicese and smashes the skull afterward she puts a sign on it saying "Take a copper, Leave a copper." "This is your first lesson: Magic is a bunch of bullshit wards with the correct application of force."
Never did do anything with the mother demon...
