>>14748910Its not that they get access to all those spells. In all likelihood, at least at first, a wizard will NOT have all those spells at his disposal.
The problem is, he gets a free one when he levels, and he only NEEDS one.
Even so far back as first level, the 'lowly' Sleep and Color Spray are monstrous. What else effectively instantly takes out multiple targets, possibly of several hitdice/levels greater than the caster, in a single action?
They end up with many magical items comparatively to the rest of the group. Either because they can best use it, or because they made it.
At middling levels, location is no longer an issue. How can it be when you can scry, douse, contact-other-plane and teleport? Sometimes, just ONE of these spells can almost entirely invalidate another character (or character CLASS) with a single action; a single cast of the many per day you can do.
Simple, common, near ubiquitous summoning spells can put the fighter out of a job. These critters even come with spells of their own sometimes, compounding the problem to ridiculous degrees. And the basics of the system allow, nay, encourage it.
The wizard needs not the entire library of spells, all the feats, all the magic items. He just has that much more made for him than others got, but, really, needed it less in the first place.
