Try applying a wash over it to get extra depth. Mix up a bunch of water wit some black (so it's basically black water) and liberally apply. You could also get some washes, like Badab Black or Devlan Mud. They work wonders.
As for the purple, try just painting silver (or Boltgun), and wash it over with a purple wash or two. You could also get some Privateer inks, since GW is too faggy to keep making them these days, but they're a little hard if you don't know what you're doing.
