Honestly, the thing is too badly written to really work out WHAT happened beyond 'Sisters dead, Grey Knights responcible'

I'd like to see it reconned to the Sisters willingly giving thier lives to get the marines there. Perhaps something ala the Elder Sign in COC, where in order for it to have power it drains your life.

That and I find the image of a SOB with her hand sliced open drawing the Elder Sign on a GK's chestplate a cooler image than the GK deciding to channel Malal and act like teamkilling fucktards.

I'd rather it that GK when arriving on the scene, proceed to kill everyone because all is chaos. sometimes they would come upon a prexisting fight, and kill everyone involved, because the servents of chaos are known to infight.

this happens a few time, but the guys in charge of body disposal realise that some of the corrupted SoB bodies aren't, and that the blood can ward people. GK are saddened by the knowledge that they killed SoBs, but use the blood anyway, to end the chaos through something.

There, you have teamkilling GK, but it seems more of an honest mix-up.

Presumably the GKs believe the blood has magical properties. Or they believe it's the ritual itself that gives the power. OP seems to believe that the imperium is a place of RATIONAL SCIENCE! and not one of CRAZY MAGIC AND SUPERSTITION. But all fluff I'm aware of indicates that it's the second.

As the main character was turning into an alien because of nanites in his system then it stands to reason that introducing those nanites into your system could have a similer effect.

Logically if the Warlord ate him it is entirely plausible that he too would have begun transforming.

Personally, I like the grey knights as pragmatic warriors that are designed to be able to withstand the corrupting influence of chaos to make use of its own tools. It's a nice change within the setting from the standard array of "none purer" factions and everyone going insane whenever they think of deviating from imperial creed.

Unless the space marines being regarded as mythological (or even not believed in at all) by most of the Imperium didn't leave them mysterious enough from a fluff standpoint. They were just a slightly purer faction in a group of factions that already included dozens of "none purer" factions. I want Grey Knights that do something that the SM don't already do.

I wish they'd condense all of the Space Marine chapter variants into one book... The Grey Knights are different enough to warrant a different codex, but only just.

Instead, they should get another faction that people would want to play... Like, say, the Adeptus Mechanicus. I'd so want to play a Mechanicus army.

there are plenty of seriously brutal chapters. there's a short story in issue 7 of Hammer&Bolter where some mutants are causing a problem in a hive, the Guard isn't making any progress, so they call for help, and then proceed to shit themselves when they find out the Iron Hands are coming.

Grey knight have been doing blood ritual since before ward, in fact many chapters have been said to have ointments in blood, both in the servants of the emperor blood and of their defeated foes.

The problem is that they have trouble turning profit with the number of factions they already have. Investing the considerable resources that it would take to develop the new faction's mechanics, write the codexs, sculpt the models and (most prohibitively expensive) create the moulds to make the units couldn't really be justified.

Space Marines fight everybody.
Grey Knights are specifically trained and equipped to fight Daemons. Anybody else they fight just happened to be between them and the Daemons, or unlucky enough to have fought alongside them.

This really sounds like a case of "They changed it so it sucks". GK were a footnote in the setting anyway, I'm frankly baffled why a faction with such a narrow focus was even remotely considered being worth designing as a playable faction rather than as a set of elite units for inquisition based armies.

As I said Grey knights have always done this, ever since they were first thought up they have used sorcery and had blood rituals, it is just a part of 40k lore.
To me it makes sense because as mentioned before even the most loyal space marine can turn to chaos so even a grey knight needs some kind of protection from the forces of chaos.

Also this whole thing is fucking stupid, GK and SoB's should have just been thrown into one codex together, they're so extremely unnecessary, they're both tiny factions in 40k that don't sell well in the first place, GW should be focusing on updating the main factions that do sell well instead of spending time bullshitting around.

They were kind of cool when they showed up in Realms of Chaos. They would be kind of cool as part of some sort of Codex: Imperium, which would cover Deathwatch, GKs, Sisters, Arbites, the Ecclesiarchy, and the Inquisition as units you could bring with any other Imperium army for a more fluffy game.

Like, "okay in this game, the Dark Eldar have been doing slave raids on this planet. my IG represent the PDF, and I'm taking a Deathwatch Kill Team to represent the Ordo Xenos lending a hand."

Or "These Chaos Marines are attacking an Ecclesiarchy temple. The Sisters, PDF and Arbites are the rag-tag alliance of defenders, while an Inquisitor and his retinue reveal themselves to lend aid. There are some Imperial Guard to fulfill the FOC."

I think the book was actually called grey knights, I can't remember of the top of my head but it mentioned that their armour and weapons is covered in an ointment of holy oils and blood, also mentions that for every bolter round they use needs the blood of one servant to be holy.

Well at the moments every codex but the unpopular ones have been updated, all we need is tau and necrons now really,Sister should get a FAQ update for now. Since right now no one wants to start an army of nothing but over priced metal models and they are not the bad game wise, I can understand how bad sister players feel but GW really doesn't seem to have any plans of updating them any tine soon.

Nothing makes the Grey Knights equipments holy, they're Nemesis Force Weapons, it's just a regular old weapon, only amplified by the Knights Psyker powers.

The bolter shells are just filled with "holy" water and inscribed with wards and shit.

The Psycannons just shoot psyker fueled bolts.

They armor is just..armor..that's really tough, the protection from daemons comes from the wards in the Grey Knights bodies themselves, and all those wards do is just prevent them from being possessed.

It's not the "holiness" that hurts daemons, it's the psyker aspect that does, which is why Space Marines can't effectively fight Daemons, and of course a regular old psyker would go insane or get possessed if he tried to fight a daemon, which makes the new fluff twice as stupid.

That would maybe make sense if GKs weren't fictional. They only exist in fluff. That little bit is the first piece of fictional writing about them, and it doesn't mention the things you say. So unless you have another official bit of fiction about them from the same time or earlier, which does specifically mention sorcery or whatever, you can't say they did sorcery 'from the beginning'.

Granted it's sorta new fluff, but it fits into the fluff already written by Ben Counter, who besides the original codex, is the biggest source of GK fluff.

I always liked the list. I imagined a Codex: Imperium to be the next step forward, a mix of Demon and Witch Hunters with IG. But I guess that wouldn't be as cost effective for GW.

PROPOSAL:

Make the Imperium a single faction you can play as.

Divide fielding not on Codex lines, but on groups inside: Put Terminators, librarians and bike squads into their own sections for instance.

Divide guard up by Scouts, armour, infantry, etc.

Continue doing it until all groups have been divided up like that.

Put up balance rules like you can have in a 1500 point game three of ANY of those groups under the same faction heading in one army. You have a set min/max for points that can go into one group, and then you have the option to take the same group multiple times.

Has anyone read Blood Pact by Dan Abnett? I just started (Chapter 8_ and, I know I should just keep reading but...

Are Gaunts new high tech augmentic eyes of Necron origin? He complains about flashes of green light, strange visions and his eyes have given him the ability to see through walls? See into minds? Look into the past? Its not clear.

Just wondering if anyone has read it yet and can allay my fears.

For pretty much everyone who isn't in the military and/or inquisition it stays at 'spooky shit the Emperor protects us from'. Everything from that level UP is revealed on a need-to-know basis. You don't need to know the details on demonspawn and the warp to shoot them, so Guard intel tends to be rather vague on the subject.

In current fluff, they're the third order and come in last ion terms of relative power and authority. They have some wide discretionary powers on the topic of demons, but that's special circumstances, something any Inquisitor can invoke.
